What GL covers for home care agencies
General liability responds to accidents like a caregiver knocking over an antique lamp, a wheelchair scraping a client's floor, or a visitor tripping over supplies during a home visit. It also covers defense costs — which often exceed the settlement — for covered claims.
What GL does NOT cover
GL does not cover care-related negligence (that's professional liability), employee injuries (workers' comp), or theft by employees (fidelity bond). This is why home care agencies need a coordinated stack, not just a BOP.
Typical limits & requirements
Most state licenses require at least $1M per occurrence / $2M aggregate. Hospital contracts and Medicaid programs frequently require $2M/$4M, with the state or health system named as additional insured on a primary & non-contributory basis.
