Occupational Therapist Insurance

Occupational therapists treat in homes, schools, clinics, and facilities — often as contractors — which means insurance requirements come from several directions at once. KTL builds OT programs around professional liability, general liability, abuse and molestation coverage, and hired & non-owned auto for therapists who travel between clients.

  • Coverage for clinic, home-health, school-contract, and pediatric OT
  • Contract-matched limits for school districts and facilities
  • Abuse & molestation coverage for pediatric and hands-on care
  • Certificates issued the same business day

Why contract OTs need their own policy

Many occupational therapists work 1099 for staffing agencies, school districts, or home-health agencies. Those organizations insure themselves, not you, and their certificate does not extend to a claim naming you individually. A personal professional liability policy gives you an independent defense limit and is usually the document a district or agency asks for during onboarding.

What OT insurance costs

Individual policies are inexpensive; practice programs scale with payroll, revenue, and setting. Pediatric and home-based work rates slightly higher than clinic-only practice because of supervision and auto exposure.

Renewing in the next 90 days?

That's the sweet spot to re-shop your coverage. KTL benchmarks your renewal across 20+ A-rated carriers — most clients see options within one business day.

School districts, IEPs, and additional insured wording

District contracts commonly require $1M/$3M professional liability, $1M/$2M general liability, abuse and molestation coverage, the district named as additional insured, a waiver of subrogation, and proof of workers' comp or a sole-proprietor exclusion. Requirements are usually in an insurance exhibit attached to the services agreement — send it over and KTL will match it exactly rather than guessing at limits.

Home visits, equipment, and vehicle exposure

Adaptive equipment, sensory kits, and evaluation tools travel in a car and are not covered by a homeowners or personal auto policy when used for business. Inland marine covers the equipment; hired & non-owned auto covers your liability for accidents while driving between clients. Both endorsements typically add only a few hundred dollars a year.

Frequently asked questions

Their policy protects the agency. As a 1099 therapist you can still be named individually, and most agencies require you to carry your own limits as a condition of the contract.
